only the city
length: 25 minutes
shot: march-april 2007, edited: april-may 2007

so there you are, as a spoiled dutch bike lover, riding down busy streets in downtown san francisco and dodging pot holes and glass in oakland. it's more fun than i thought it would be: despite the dangers and frustrations you find yourself confronted with, there's also this thrill of doing it regardless, this kick you get out of beating cars at the lights, this feeling of being a part of traffic, instead of being safely on your bikepath.
so i though it would be a fun idea to make something that tells a bit of both: people's frustrations about riding here, but also their good experiences. i interviewed a number of people for this project, school kids and a senior, commuters and bike messengers, people in oakland and in san francisco, about their personal experiences with biking in the city.
the result is not supposed to be objective, or informative, or persuasive. it's supposed to be like a bike ride: a steady pace, a sudden stop, a change of direction, a little distraction. fast and fun and hopefully just a bit too short.

here are some bits:
the trailer
it's over before you know it.
09.40.04-10.59.09
who can tell us more about riding in downtown rush hour than a die hard commuter and bike messengers?
13.02.20-14.14.59
we all know we need to think about the environment, but it has a lot more meaning hearing it from one of the main reasons.
19.34.12-2-.23.18
a fun punk reminding us of the freedom we have riding a bicycle.
